The Mind of Christ

Everyone seems to have an opinion about everything; ask anyone about any subject and they’ll tell you theirs. I have many opinions as well, however, I want to be known as someone who bases their opinions on God’s Word: a spiritual perspective. My thoughts on a matter should be God’s thoughts, that’s having the mind of Christ.

The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned. The spiritual person judges all things, but is himself to be judged by no one. “For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.
1 Cor. 2:14-16

The Greek word translated mind in that verse can also mean perception, thinking, or understanding. It’s a great word that helps us understand that God’s plan for us as His image bearers is obtainable and worthy of our effort. To have the mind of Christ is to think like He thinks and base your thoughts on spiritual truths. He’s willing to reveal Himself to us, His children (Matt. 11:25), if we’d only ask.

Jesus spoke with His disciples in Luke 24:45 and opened their minds in order for them to understand the scriptures. He didn’t open their hearts or their spirits; He opened their minds. Understanding the Scriptures was foremost on Jesus’ heart and opening their minds was a precursor. I love it when my eyes and mind are opened to the scriptures. Haven’t you had one of those “ah ha” moments when you realize Jesus is speaking directly to you? Revelation of His Word is life-changing; your perspectives change and align with His.

And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7 NIV

If we want to walk in that kind of peace it will be vital to renew our minds in God’s Word every day. Breaking patterns of natural thinking that doesn’t line up with Scripture is challenging and will take spiritual discipline but is totally worth our effort.

Are there situations in your life right now that you can’t, in your natural mind, understand? God tells us to ask Him for revelation and His Spirit will open our eyes and minds so we can walk in His peace and not be shaken when the storms of life hit.

“Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out! “For who has known the mind of the LORD? Or who has become His counselor?” “Or who has first given to Him And it shall be repaid to him?” For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, to whom be glory forever. Amen.” Romans 11:33-36 NKJV

But we have the mind of Christ.
