A spiritual uplift to get you through the week

Midweek Message from the Archive

Whose side are you on?

What are the two subjects that you are not to discuss among friends? Religion and politics, right? Why is that? Because it usually brings out strong opinions on opposing sides of the issues facing us. Here’s the problem, religion is our relationship with God and takes on many forms and traditions. It won’t look the same for everyone. Having different perspectives on the way we relate to God is good; He can handle it. He doesn’t care about the title of your perspective (Catholic, Pentecostal, Reformed, etc.). He cares about everything that concerns YOU. When you are confused on an issue His desire is to clarify it for you. That’s why the Holy Spirit is called the Teacher. Have the courage in these last days to stand on what He shows you. Don’t be afraid to be called ‘pro-life’, God is pro-life. He’s in favor of every life that is conceived and He has a plan for them. Oh oh, I’ve gotten into politics. Don’t delete this message from your computer just yet but hear me out.

The issues for God are not gray areas: He is black and white, right and wrong, truth and error. For example: Taking a life is wrong and scripture defines marriage as one man and one woman. Oh dear, now I’ve probably offended more of you. It’s OK. I want to be filled with courage to stand and not shrink back from my faith and what scripture teaches. I want to enter into His rest and when He returns know that I’ve prayed about the issues and I have God’s perspective, not my own. It’s not that hard, simply check His Word:

For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable. (Hebrews 4:12, 13 NLT)

His message is one of love, that’s true. We love the sinner. But we also love them enough to tell them the truth. When Jesus walked the earth He targeted sin and said to turn from it. No one loved the people more than He did and yet He stood for what was right.

If anyone is ashamed of me and my message in these adulterous and sinful days, the Son of Man will be ashamed of that person when he returns in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.” (Mark 8:38 NLT)

I pray for us all to have that kind of courage in these last days and not shrink back from conversations that may be difficult. The sides are clear, have the courage to stand on God’s side.
