The King’s Star
“We three kings of Orient are, bearing gifts we traverse afar …”
First of all, scripture doesn’t say three kings, secondly, they weren’t kings; they were magi. There’s a big difference. Magi followed the occult, black magic, witchcraft, conjured spirits and cast spells like those Moses confronted (Ex. 7 & 9) in Egypt. These magi undoubtedly came from the Persian Empire where Daniel had prophesied of a kingdom that would never be destroyed (Dan. 2).
The magi of Matt. 2:1-12 were searching for the King of the Jews because they had seen His star. His star?
I see Him, but not now; I behold Him, but not near: a star shall come out of Jacob, and a scepter shall rise out of Israel. Numbers 24:17a
Could it be that His Star is the Spirit of Christ guiding these pagan, Gentile sorcerers to Himself?
A light to lighten the Gentiles … Luke 2:32
Back in Gen. 37:9 Joseph, son of Jacob, had a dream that eleven stars would bow down to him. Why eleven, it’s an incomplete number? Is it possible that the twelfth Star was the Messiah and Joseph would bow to Him?
In the lower story the guiding star of the magi may have been the sun, a star, by day and a radiant star by night.
And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead them along the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, that they might travel by day and by night. Exodus 13:21
So they had a tracking device, a GPS, to lead them to this King; that’s the lower story. The Holy Spirit operates in our life in a similar way: the upper story.
When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all the truth … John 16:13a
The Holy Spirit, His Star, was sent to guide us on our spiritual journey; that means He leads the way for us just like He did for the magi.
And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. Peter 1:19 ESV
Who is this shining morning star?
I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star. Revelation 22:16b
After two years King Herod, a neurotic, became Satan’s Plan B. He used this puppet-king to locate the One who would ultimately destroy him but to no avail. The King of the Jews was gone until about 30 years later when He hung on a cross:
And over His head they put the charge against Him, which read, “This is Jesus, the King of the Jews.” Matthew 27:37
This Christmas won’t you allow The King’s Star to be your Star leading and guiding you to worship Him as well.
