Kingship

Part Nine

While Jesus hung on the cross kingship was still on His mind; a sign was even posted that declared Him King of the Jews and beside Him were two criminals with two different attitudes: rebellion and humility. That lower story shows us the two natures of man: refusal to acknowledge the Savior (blasphemy) or a humble heart which recognized they were getting what they deserved. We all begin life like the criminals deserving God’s wrath but with repentance comes forgiveness and kingship. The second criminal said:

“Jesus, remember me when You come into your kingdom.” And He said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in paradise.” Luke 23:42-43

This humble man was given the same promise that’s available to us as well:

The Lord will rescue me from every evil deed and bring me safely into His heavenly kingdom. To Him be the glory forever and ever. Amen. 2 Timothy 4:18

What did Jesus do in those forty days after the cross and resurrection?

He presented Himself alive to them after His suffering by many proofs, appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God. Acts 1:3

Again, kingship remained His focus with the desire for believers to walk in kingdom principles because we are His inheritance.

Listen, my beloved brothers, has not God chosen those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom, which He has promised to those who love Him? James 2:5

In the early days of the church Philip the Evangelist (Acts 8:4-12) brought much joy to the city of Samaria because he moved in ministry with signs and wonders following his preaching. They were listening to him:

But when they believed Philip as he preached good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. Acts 8:12

Paul eventually picked up the mantle of kingship:

And he entered the synagogue and for three months spoke boldly, reasoning and persuading them about the kingdom of God. Acts 19:8

He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son. Colossians 1:13

Paul taught us the mysteries of the kingdom of God until His death:

From morning till evening he expounded to them, testifying to the kingdom of God and trying to convince them about Jesus both from the Law of Moses and from the Prophets … proclaiming the kingdom of God and teaching about the Lord Jesus Christ with all boldness and without hindrance. Acts 28:23b, 31

The question now presents itself; will we receive the baton in this relay race and share with others the wonder of His grace and forgiveness displaying kingship every day?

The role of the Holy Spirit is to give us the power we need for that victorious, kingdom life: just ask.
