The Bride: Part Seven
One of the first things you learn as a new believer is that God is Three in One. No one can adequately explain it but we put our faith in that truth.
Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is One. Deuteronomy 6:4
And the Lord will be king over all the earth. On that day the Lord will be One and His name One. Zechariah 14:9
The Hebrew word is echad which means united as one, altogether, or solitary. He alone is God: El Echad.
Running parallel to that truth is mankind who was created in God’s image and likeness; we are His representatives in the world. He is solely one and we are one with Him. What?
If God is a divine union, united as One, and we represent Him in that unity then what Jesus said makes a whole lot more sense.
Whoever feeds on My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him. John 6:56
We have a oneness with Christ.
… even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. You know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. John 14:17
We have a oneness with the Spirit.
In that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you. John 14:20
We have a oneness with the Father.
This divine union is a marriage, so to speak, and the Bridegroom is jealously waiting for the consummation of that union: Jesus’ Second Coming.
… for the Lord your God in your midst is a jealous God—Deuteronomy 6:15a
Names describe God’s character, His attributes, and His nature: His spiritual identity, therefore, we have El Kanna: our passionately jealous Bridegroom. He’s jealous for our time and attention as any Bridegroom would be for His Bride and He’s constantly drawing us to develop our relationship with Him.
Jesus discussed this relationship via metaphor when He spoke to the crowds in His Sermon on the Mount.
The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness! No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money. Matthew 6:22-24
The Greek word for ‘healthy’ actually means to be undivided or single in focus. If our daily focus begins with God then we’ll be light in this dark world; we won’t be divided but devoted. Devotion in this context means that there are two opposing forces vying for our attention: Choose today who you will serve (Josh. 24:14-18).
