Revelation 6:9-17
There’s no pleasure discussing the wrath of God; His indignation against those who oppose Him is frightening but that truth is woven throughout the entire Bible and needs to be clarified.
The fifth seal Jesus opened helps us envision heaven connecting with earth as the past martyrs for Christ cry out with that megaphone voice, “How long before Judgment Day when You take vengeance on our deaths?” It’s heart-wrenching.
Jesus responded to them with a gifted white robe of His righteousness and comforting words of patience and rest. He will repay (Rom. 12:19), however, there are future martyrs whose sacrificial blood needs to be shed before His timing is complete.
Jesus warned the Pharisees that the righteous blood of those sent by Him (Matt. 23:29-36), whom their people shed, is their verdict to hell and continually cries out for vengeance (Gen. 4:10). That indictment has never elapsed: He remembers.
And as for these enemies of Mine who didn’t want Me to be their King—bring them in and execute them right here in front of Me. Luke 19:27 NLT
It’s crucial for every believer in Jesus Christ to be assured that Judgment Day is not in our Father’s plan for us; we are purchased people of God, a kingdom and priests who co-reign with Him (Rev. 5:10). These last seals are a grave warning to unbelievers.
Prophecies of the end times, as Jesus also taught (Matt. 24, Mark 13, Luke 21), forewarn us of what to expect on earth so that we remain strong in faith; they won’t surprise us. Earthshaking events released from God to indicate His judgments and wrath on those who refuse to confess His Name are in our future.
- A mega-earthquake
- Darkness enveloping the earth leading to grief and sorrow
- A full moon appearing blood-red
- Stars falling to earth similar to a powerful wind blowing ripened fruit off a tree
- The sky, as we know it, will be rolled up from the sides to center as His Day is revealed.
- Finally, the mountains and islands will vanish without explanation.
Who will experience the terror of that Day? Only those who refuse to bow to the King: governmental rulers, powerful political leaders, high-ranking military officers, the rich and influential, and finally the poor whether slave or freeman. There will be suicidal cries heard as they attempt to hide from the face or presence of God the Father and from the wrath of the Lamb but their day will come as divine justice prevails.
If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory. Colossians 3:1-4 ESV
