The Ascension of Christ: Episode Three

We’re now about halfway through those empowering forty days since Easter remembering how Jesus taught His apostles Kingdom principles before being carried back into heaven. We know He relied on the Old Testament (Luke 24:36-43) writings of Moses, the prophets, and the Psalms, however, which passages? I submit the possibility of two vital truths: His kingship and His judgeship.

When Jesus walked this earth He preached and taught to anyone, but now, He’s narrowed that number to eleven. It’ll be crucial for these men to show the Jewish people that He was, indeed, the promised Messiah. He may have heavily relied on these passages.

For the Lord, the Most High, is to be feared, a great King over all the earth. Sing praises to God, sing praises! Sing praises to our King, sing praises! For God is the King of all the earth; sing praises with a psalm!

Psalm 47:2, 6-7

And to Him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve Him; His dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and His kingdom one that shall not be destroyed. But the saints of the Most High shall receive the kingdom and possess the kingdom forever, forever and ever. And the kingdom and the dominion and the greatness of the kingdoms under the whole heaven shall be given to the people of the saints of the Most High; His kingdom shall be an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey Him.

Daniel 7:13-14, 18, 27

It was necessary the apostles understood that at His Return all believers, the saints, would inherit this dominating, eternal kingdom. What about those who refuse to believe or humble themselves to Him?

“Shall not the Judge of all the earth do what is just?” Genesis 18:25b

God has taken His place in the divine council; in the midst of the gods He holds judgment: Psalm 82:1

The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every deed into judgment, with every secret thing, whether good or evil.

Ecclesiastes 12:13-14

As our Forerunner (Heb. 6:20) Jesus needed to move into position at the right hand of God in full authority (1 Peter 3:22) so we can follow Him. Jesus became the ‘living stairway to heaven’ (John 1:43-51) as He told Nathanael, the divine connection between earth and heaven. Stairway to Heaven has the refrain,

… and she’s buying a stairway to heaven.

Unfortunately that’s false doctrine; you can’t buy your trip to heaven. It continues,

Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run,

… and there’s still time to change the road you’re on,

… and it makes me wonder.

You don’t have to wonder anymore; Jesus said, “Repent and believe”, those are truths that lead to eternal life.
