The Father- Part Three

Christians know what Jesus did; He came to earth to pay the price set by the Father for our sins. Luther called it The Great Exchange. We also know the Holy Spirit was sent on Pentecost to fill and empower us to live the kingdom life, the higher life. But what is the Father doing now? The image of Father Time, the very old man with white hair and a long beard may come to mind. I don’t think so.

The Father is active today; Read what Jesus said in John 6,

All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and whoever comes to Me I will never cast out. For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will but the will of Him who sent Me. And this is the will of Him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that He has given me, but raise it up on the last day. For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in Him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. Vs. 37-40

No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day. This is why I told you that no one can come to Me unless it is granted him by the Father. Vs. 44, 65

The Father gives, sends, draws, and grants; that alone is plenty to do but His promise is that whoever comes to Jesus will never, ever be cast out. After repentance there is no sin that will separate you from the Father’s love and acceptance: You can depend on it.

I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them away from Me, for My Father has given them to Me, and He is more powerful than anyone else. No one can snatch them from the Father’s hand. John 10:28-29 NLT

This whole idea of the Fatherhood of God was a New Testament breakthrough. In the Old we find about 15 times when God is called Father (usually to Israel) but in the New we find 165 times and it’s personal! Out of those 165 references to God the Father, 100 are found in the book of John. Fascinating. John’s the place to go for Fatherhood.

It’s also important to remember the Father’s directing of not only the Son but also the Spirit.

… for He gives the Spirit without measure. John 3:34 ESV

For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. Matthew 10:20 ESV

The Trinity works to give believers the ability to live their life to the fullest in Him. Always remember, it was the Father who desired you. If you’re a believer then you were drawn, chosen, and given to Jesus by your Father.
