War in Israel: What’s Your Perspective?

Episode Five

There’s so much more from the Scriptures that could be written in support of Israel in this war, but suffice to say that since Satan can’t destroy God he’ll attempt to destroy those whom God loves. Every enemy, beginning with Pharaoh, to the ‘ites’, to Haman, and eventually to Herod, has one goal: wipe out Israel, the people from the land.

Where does Herod fit in? He was descendant of Esau (Edomites) who was rejected by God and became a powerful enemy of Israel in the Old Testament. Interestingly, when the time came for Messiah to appear, the prophecy of Bethlehem was already activated. Herod was appointed by the Roman government to be the king of Judea (Matt. 2:1-6) allowing no other king to usurp his reign. The same antichrist spirit operating in Israel’s enemies would take over Herod and drive him to destroy the Messiah: King of the Jews. Same spirit, same plan, but he was hoping for a different outcome.

Let’s discuss Bethlehem. The Hebrew name is usually translated ‘house of bread’, but if you investigate you’ll find it includes ‘house of war’. Messiah born in a house of war? Let’s check the Bible.

The LORD is a man of war; the LORD is His name. Exodus 15:3

The LORD goes out like a mighty man, like a man of war He stirs up His zeal; He cries out, He shouts aloud, He shows Himself mighty against His foes. Isaiah 42:13

But the LORD stands beside me like a great warrior. Before Him my persecutors will stumble. Jeremiah 20:11a

The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; Zephaniah 3:17a

Remember God’s judgment on Satan after the fall: One is coming who will crush you. Satan has been following God’s people for generations and finally the One coming will make His appearance. Operating through Herod, Satan could destroy the Messiah, Jesus, and take over the world as he had hoped. Herod’s plan? Familiar and yet elementary: kill all the baby boys in the region of Judea.

Jesus was born in the house of war as a Mighty Warrior and Champion who will continue to battle for His Church, Jew and Gentile alike, until the end when He returns to set up His final kingdom. Whether Iran, China, or Russia make plans to support more groups like Hamas or Hezbollah, they won’t succeed. God is the final Victor for His chosen people and chosen land.

Understand, therefore, that the LORD your God is indeed God. He is the faithful God who keeps His covenant for a thousand generations and lavishes His unfailing love on those who love Him and obey His commands. Deuteronomy 7:9

Join many in prayer for Israel during this time of war, declaring God’s faithfulness to His people and land, to His Church, and for believers throughout the Middle East to remain strong and endure this time of tribulation.
