Joseph and His Coat: Scene Six

We left off last week with Joseph back in jail, however, the spiritual coat of authority and abundance remained active. How do we know? With a sudden turn of events Joseph offered to interpret the dreams of the wine steward and baker. He had the experience of dreams, yet to be fulfilled, but God gave him the ability to explain the dreams of both men which were fulfilled in days: the wine steward was released and the baker executed. His reputation was passed along to Pharaoh who also, by God’s providence, needed a dream interpreter which would authenticate the prophetic coat Joseph wore.

Timing is everything with God, subsequently, it took two whole years of rotting in jail before Joseph was remembered by the sommelier. Gen. 41 explains that Pharaoh’s two dreams meant the same thing as Joseph explained: there’ll be seven years of plenty and seven years of famine. It’s coming … you can’t stop it. Joseph was careful giving God all the credit for the interpretations, honoring Him, and Pharaoh recognized the truth of his words. Not only that, but Joseph’s wisdom and advice positioned him as second only to Pharaoh; the coat was still active.

Looking back, let’s remember Psalm 105:16-25 where Joseph’s adventure is recounted, here’s just a clip,

His feet were hurt with fetters; his neck was put in a collar of iron; until what he had said came to pass, the word of the Lord tested him.

Our main character in this drama was being tested by God. He could’ve been angry, disappointed, or even hopeless while enduring his incarceration, however, he wasn’t. He passed the test and was surprisingly promoted to authority and abundance. Makes you wonder how he did it. Did he follow David’s example when he and his tribe were being hunted by Saul, their families kidnapped, and the people turning against him?

And David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because all the people were bitter in soul, each for his sons and daughters. But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God. 1 Samuel 30:6

I wonder, dear readers, how many of you are being tested by God until what He said to you comes to pass? Is your faith in what you can see or what you can’t see? Do you trust God with your present circumstances whether it includes your families, jobs, finances, or health? Strengthen and encourage yourself in the Lord. Remember what He’s done for you in the past and believe Him for the future. Joseph undoubtedly remembered his invisible, prophetic coat and it encouraged him.

When Jesus ministered on this earth He rebuked His disciples for not remembering His double, miraculous provision of food from Mark 8:14-21 calling them ‘hard hearted’. Beware of that heart condition and remember that in Christ you wear a ‘coat of many colors’ or more accurately, a robe of authority and abundance … even when you can’t see it.
